Poker is different: you play the people, not the house.

The casino takes a small fee from each pot (the "rake") and lets players compete. Good decisions (which hands to play, from which seat, and at what price) win money from worse decisions over time.

Position changes the value of the same cards

  • Early seats play tighter: more players still to act behind you.
  • The button is the best seat: it acts last after the flop on every street.
  • The blinds have money in already but play the rest of the hand out of position.
